“Still processing” is an update that leaves a household unable to plan a move. A better transaction tracker identifies the outstanding task, the person responsible and the information needed before the next stage can begin. It should make a conversation more precise without pretending that a buyer can control every external approval or legal dependency.
Create one row for each meaningful milestone. Use the actual terminology provided by the relevant solicitor, institution or other responsible professional, and add a plain-language explanation alongside it. Record the latest verified status, the date of that status and the next action. A date copied from an old message should not remain the household's assumed completion date after circumstances have changed.
Ask a better progress question
Suppose a buyer is waiting for an answer involving a financing document. Instead of sending “any update?” to several people every day, ask which document remains outstanding, who is obtaining it and when it is reasonable to request another update. If the answer depends on a third party, show that dependency explicitly. This reduces contradictory expectations about who can act next.
Keep contractual deadlines separate from planning estimates. Ask the relevant professional which dates create an obligation and which dates are provisional. A household's preferred moving weekend is not automatically a date another party has agreed to meet. Before booking services that charge cancellation fees, identify the evidence needed to make the booking sensible.
Escalate using the record
If progress appears to have stopped, summarise the documented sequence in a short note: the outstanding issue, the previous response and the effect on the transaction. Send it to the appropriate responsible organisation, allowing it to identify and address the problem. Avoid distributing sensitive transaction documents to unrelated people in an attempt to attract attention.
BNM's current complaint information is provided as further reading for issues within the financial-services context; a different issue may need a different professional or authority. This diary does not label an ordinary delay as misconduct. A good tracker should also record tasks completed and questions resolved. Its value is a shared account of the facts, allowing the household to plan realistically and raise a specific concern when the evidence justifies doing so.
